Lost in translation

Today, as I was translating for a patient to get an MRI, the tech asked if I had metal in my body. In front of the patient, I had to disclose that my nipples were pierced, so I couldn’t accompany the patient bedside. FML

And why did you have to disclose your nipples were pierced? It was a simple yes or no question. With a simple "yes" the tech would have been happy.

If you were there to translate for the patient, they would not have understood what you said to the tech right?

Couldn't you have removed your nipple piercings before going to the MRI?

A simple “Yes” without details wouldn’t suffice?
